The first half of this presentation is an exposition on Compassion Fatigue—its causes, symptoms, and course. This self-paced course provides a discussion of the development of the concept of compassion fatigue and how it is conveyed in the literature and implied by the primary contributors. Self-regulation of the autonomic nervous system is a central resilience skill taught during this course. This skill functions as a powerful mitigator for stress, distress, and nervousness. Anytime someone participates in self-evaluation there exists the risk of uncovering experiences that are painful and uncomfortable.
